“The band that every other band likes.”
Wow, that’s an aspirational statement, one I recently heard regarding our SXSW headlining musical act, Dawes. They are a wonderful canyon rock quartet lead by brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith. They are great guys and we really like them.
As you should already know, we incorporate emerging and independent music into much of what we do (emerging bands and startups are a lot alike), including our ‘Music Meets Tech’ rager for all attendees at O’Reilly’s Velocity Conference this week.
Quiet Life, an American Rock Band, provided a face melting reminder that passion, focus and commitment when building a band or company make up your integrity and, inevitably, your success.
They are another band that all other bands like, regardless of genre. We like them too.
So why do we throw DynTini events, Music Meets Tech parties, obsess over customer relationships, always take the high road in competitive situations and encourage our employees to be their crazy selves? Because we share the same aspiration that Dawes and Quiet Life have: to be the company that every other company likes, regardless of industry.
We’re not in the game to win a space like many of our public foes. We want to build a great and lasting company to be proud of. I always say it, but people buy from people they like and stick with companies with great people. Respect is a two way street and if your enemies don’t respect you, you’re not doing your job.
Be the company that all other companies like and try to be like. I’ll tell you what, we sure as hell like us.
