In November, I was fortunate enough to share the news that Oracle entered an agreement to acquire Dyn, and its leading cloud-based DNS and email solutions. Now we are happy to announce that the deal has closed and we are officially an Oracle Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) global business unit (GBU) supporting the Oracle Bare Metal Cloud stack.
This news is exciting on many levels.
First and foremost, we are excited for our more than 3,500 current direct customers, who are some of the best digital brands in the world. In addition to receiving the same great products and support, they will now benefit from higher level of resources to invest in our offerings and make our network even faster, safer and more reliable.
It should also be noted that one of the things that I’ve been impressed with throughout all of our discussions is how much this ethos is shared between Oracle and Dyn. They have the same fanatical dedication to building great products and putting their customers first. That mantra of engineering excellence has been a part of Dyn’s DNA since day one and it’s never going away. In fact, quite the opposite: it is about to scale.
The Dyn team is also excited for all of Oracle’s cloud customers who will now have a one-stop shop for infrastructure services. You see, despite tremendous growth, the IT industry is still in the early days of the cloud. In fact, only about 6% of enterprise workloads are currently running on IaaS, according to 451 Research. In the coming years that number will explode. When these enterprises evaluate public cloud options, they will like what they see in Oracle’s IaaS offering.
Oracle offers a complete, highly differentiated, enterprise-class cloud computing platform for building and running internal and internet applications and cloud services. Oracle understands that companies want to buy in bundles but they also want the best. That is why Oracle is differentiating its cloud by having the best of breed at each level. This is why Dyn’s DNS and messaging capabilities fit in so well with data on internet performance that few can rival. The cloud experience starts with DNS.
Oracle Bare Metal Cloud customers will have a unique experience. They get to enjoy all the benefits of the cloud (elastic resources, fast provisioning, pay-as-you-go pricing, etc.) while retaining uncompromised security, flexibility and choice, consistent performance and reliability.
So, to all of our customers, partners, employees, colleagues and friends who have supported Dyn from its humble founding on the campus of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) to become one of the pillar technology companies of New Hampshire and New England, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Now today we begin the next chapter and I can’t wait to see what we, collectively, write together.
