Ten years ago, the first hardcore Perl users were setting foot on DynDNS.org, sniffing the air and cautiously signing up for what was to become our signature free Dynamic DNS service. It looked pretty rough, it was little more than a server in a damp basement but it was offered with love by a computer geek with good intentions.
Fast forward about four thousand days, six bona-fide, state of the art data centers, about a hundred dedicated servers and 597,835 lines of custom-developed code, not counting revisions and betas. More than two million users have signed up. The company now known as Dyn has grown to the forefront of the DNS, domain and email scenes, managing entire TLDs and supporting the networks of some of this modern world’s best known names in broadcasting, energy and information technology.
This success, we owe it to you, to your trust and to your support. Nothing great is ever achieved in a vacuum and nothing would have happened without your feedback (good and bad) and encouragement. Today, the team joins me in sending big cheers to each and every one of our users.
We are happy to announce, of course, that these ten years were only the beginning. As our network has grown and expanded, as we have developed in-house technology to keep it running fluidly no matter what, we are now armed to introduce new offerings, in all three of our core activities: DNS, of course, but also email and domains. With a platform that is, truly, our very own, and close ties with network operation centers in which we have operated racks for years, we have all the tools in hand to push the envelope.
To celebrate, we thought we would redecorate a bit. As some of you have noticed, DynDNS.com sports a new logo and a streamlined design. We have also opened our corporate site to link our various brands together and help clear up some confusion between “dyndns the technology” and “DynDNS the company”. Over the weeks to come you can expect more surprises, little touches and improvements.
If you have not yet responded to our one-time survey, we encourage you to do so. There is not only a little coupon in it for you, there is a big opportunity to help us help you: the plaster on the wall is still wet and we can still move the cabling inside the cabinets so there has never been a better time to share with us whatever thoughts lurk in the darkest recesses of your /brain/log.
Once again, thank you. We are honored you chose to put your trust in us and we are looking forward to being at your side for the years to come.
