Nigeria Chooses Dyn to Manage Country Code

.ng is Fourteenth Top Level Domain Added to Roster

MANCHESTER, NH The country of Nigeria has picked Dyn to help re-launch and manage its Country Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD).

The .ng ccTLD is the 14th country Dyn will manage under its DynTLD brand, which operates DNS for fourteen TLD’s overall. This move marks a significant step forward in increasing service, security and reliability for the growing Web and Internet infrastructure of Nigeria. Nigeria has the largest population of any African country and is the 10th largest country in the world.

“Nigeria’s technological infrastructure is evolving rapidly to meet the demands of a growing economy and we saw that having greater control and security of our country code top level domain was vital to our growth,” said Ndukwe Kalu, President of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association. “In order to position the .ng registry to spearhead the expected IT revolution, we needed partners that provided top-level service and stability along with the ability to develop with us and we believe we have found a partner in Dyn Inc.”

Other country codes Dyn manages include the countries of Georgia, the Christmas Islands, East Timor, Solomon Islands, Mauritius and more. The gTLD, .coop, run by the National Cooperative Business Association also exclusively publishes their zone under Dyn’s DynTLD brand.

Until recently Nigeria’s ccTLD was free, leaving it vulnerable to fraud and abuse. However, over the last five years the desire and need for more wireless and Internet based technologies has grown rapidly. A clear sign of the country’s emerging technology-based economy is that just five years ago, only one-in-five Nigerians owned a mobile phone. Now the average is closer to one mobile phone per-person.

“An increasing number of countries are recognizing the value of running their country codes, taking it as seriously as their telephone networks, and they need to know that the organization administering the domain is rock solid,” said Jeremy Hitchcock, CEO. “For Dyn Inc. this is another validation of our platform and we believe that as more countries look for ccTLD services, they will look to our company to provide security, stability and reliability.”
