Number One: Topics of considerable interest included: a presentation by ICANN SVP Kurt Pritz on progress in the march toward new TLDs, .mobi and .asia presentations, new gTLD hurdles and progress being made, Internet security and the global Cyber crime problem. The presentations, corresponding Q&A and follow-up discussions were great.
Number Two: I had been told that the “real” value of these meetings comes from the people you meet. It was great to be able to network and chat with some of the brains that keep the Internet running smoothly. Connections were made with reps from organizations like ICANN, Tucows, GoDaddy, Afilias, PIR, NCFTA/FBI, Neustar, Network Solutions, Sedo, Oversee.net, Dotalliance, Hexonet, dotMobi, DotAsia and more.
Here is a quote from Gray about his experience: “Each ICANN event has its own flavor, and this one was tasty. There was great news from ICANN staff regarding the demise of the Globally Protected Marks List and very valuable debate about everything from registry/registrar communication to the twists and turns that result from registry failures.”
I’ve also grabbed some tweets (Twitter) from the past two days that caught my attention from attendees and/or people following on the Internet. Pretty good way to summarize a meeting.
