As we all know, tonight was Super Bowl 44 in the United States. After an amazing recovery from behind, the New Orleans Saints took the game 31 to 17 over the Indianapolis Colts. During the course of the game, Dyn Inc.’s own network operations team was standing by to monitor the health of the Internet as a whole, and how our DNS operations ran throughout the event. Since we have some huge brands and companies using our DNS platforms, we wanted to put in the effort to make sure things were running smoothly.
Watching the back-end of the Internet, DNS service, that is, during the Super Bowl was exciting. We watched DNS traffic ebb and flow between commercials, from one customer to another customer, all over our network. Traffic to social media, e-commerce, and advertising sites increased significantly. We’re still crunching the statistics, but it looks like traffic to our DNS network grew nearly 50% during the course of the game.
It doesn’t stop now that the game is over, as we wait for Super Bowl Monday to start in just a few hours, when we’ll keep watching the traffic and crunching the statistics. Yep, we’re obsessed, with DNS and what our customers are up to with it.
