2011 was our biggest year yet for a lot of reasons, but we’ve picked out eight big ones that we’ll look back on as key igniters to why a better, faster & stronger 2012 is ahead.
“I’ve been everywhere, man.”
A secret to our success is our exposure and availability at conferences, events and get-togethers around the globe. In 2011, we had people on the ground at more than 30 events including stops in Paris, London, Berlin, New York, Dallas, Las Vegas and Boston. In 2012, that number doubles to more than 70. Frequent flier miles will be racking up again next year starting in January.
One becomes three
In the summer of 2011, we moved into our new 24,000 square foot state-of-the-art offices in the historic mill district of Manchester, NH. While some companies may have fled and searched the best tax breaks for a new location, Dyn has always called the Queen City home and will continue to do so, hardening our belief that southern New Hampshire will one day become a technological mecca that will be on par with other cities similar to ours.
With that said, we also realized the need to expand our operations to better serve and grow with our customers. That’s why we opened up locations in London, England, and San Francisco, CA, and continue to “Dynify” them. So far, so good.
New faces in our new places
While the media may keep banging on the drum of ‘slow growth’ and ‘down economy’, Dyn didn’t listen and didn’t buy into that philosophy. We added 58 new employees in the last 12 months, strengthening everything from engineering to leadership to support to sales/marketing to business operations. Guess what? There’s more on the way in 2012.
One of our favorite stats is that we have clients and users in 242 countries and territories around the world. With an estimate of 258 recognized countries and territories, that means we’re known and used in 93.7% of them. Here’s hoping we get to 100% in 2012! (At least the North Pole is covered.)
The dawn of email
Through the last 12 months, Dyn Nation has heard a ton about email, email delivery, deliverability and everything involved to getting into the inbox. The email team here has added some great talent to its ranks and things continue to progress with this Internet Infrastructure must-have. DNS will always be in our DNA but we’re proud to add a new strand with email. Expect to hear big things with email in ’12.
200% capacity increase in our data centers
With all of these new clients and upgrades in services, we decided to add even more power to our data centers around the world, which CTO Tom Daly has broken down here and here. All of this resulted in a 200% capacity increase in our global Anycast networks. We’re constantly asked about what’s next with new points of presence (PoP) and as always, expect the unexpected…but expect it to be awesome.

Managed DNS and email delivery is something we’re passionate about and we do what we do because we love it. Along the way, we’ve been honored to be recognized for our accomplishments and 2011 brought some new hardware into our trophy room. Inc. Magazine named us to their Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies list as well as a Top Small Company Workplace. New Hampshire Magazine added us to their ‘It List’ while Business NH Magazine crowned Dyn as a Best Company To Work For Hall-of-Famer.
New clients become existing ones
A simple measure of growth is how many new companies have said “yes” and put their names on the dotted line to do business with you. We’re proud and honored that nearly 1300 new enterprise businesses now trust their uptime and email delivery to Dyn. All of the above (new locations, employees, data center expansion) wouldn’t be possible without new clients and something that companies overlook, retaining our existing ones. Thank to you those that are new and to those that have continued to support us with your business.
With last Thursday’s news of our competitor Akamai purchasing Cotendo, it’s clear that Internet IaaS is still a hot commodity and one that continues to be of importance for companies with large/growing web traffic and email delivery needs. Dyn’s goal is simple: be the best at whatever we do and create raving fans as a result.
