Hello from London! I’m Phil Akilade — the new UK Regional Director for Dyn. As we officially opened our London office last week, I wanted to tell you a little bit of my background and story, helping set the stage for what you can expect from Dyn’s first non U.S.-based office.
I first became involved in the internet way back in the days of dial-up in 1997-98. Those were really trail blazing and sometimes frustrating times (especially with upload times) but always exciting. Since then, the internet has grown into the established platform for business and communication we all take for granted today.
Unknown to me, around the same time a little-known (outside of technical communities) internet company had just launched an innovative service to enable people to connect with their home PCs via dynamic DNS: DynDNS.org.
Since then, I’ve worked for and been involved in technology companies big and small. Without trying to be too romantic, there is almost a touch of destiny in crossing paths with that same company today. I decided to join the Dyn team because I was hugely impressed by its customer focus, culture and uniqueness.
Not many businesses get beyond the hackneyed statements about the need for excellent customer service and actually prove they mean it. Dyn’s 12 years of loyal support from millions of demanding technical customers all around the world said far more to me than pretty pictures on a glossy brochure.
Their obvious realisation that a happy, motivated and professional workforce drives great customer service was refreshing, exciting and downright common sense to me. I was hugely influenced by Dyn’s customer-driven entrepreneurial spirit and this UK office is a demonstration of that and its commitment to build closer relationships with its UK and European customers.
I have to admit I was almost mystically attracted to Dyn’s unusual combination of professional technical excellence, messianic customer adoration, product innovation and fun.
Why I’m excited about the new UK office
I’m really looking forward to bringing the Dyn culture to the UK and Europe because I’ve experienced first-hand at the Manchester, New Hampshire, HQ how intoxicating an environment that is for customers and employees alike. Growing a business is always exciting and I’m looking forward to playing an active role in Dyn’s development in the UK and European markets.
The opportunity to forge productive new relationships is what it’s all about for me. But being able to build these new relationships from a community of customers that already adore the companies products and service culture is a complete no-brainer.
I believe that for a business to sustain long-term growth, it has to find ways to:
- Help its customers get full value from its products.
- Provide a platform for its customer community to learn from each other.
- Keep building additional value for its customers long after they have purchased their products.
