Apps For Water And How You Can Help Tuesday

We love companies that care enough to give back to the community, be it giving money to the United Way, collecting for a Toys for Tots drive or going out and doing a build with Habitat For Humanity. It is something that we do with the DynCares initiative and we have nothing but respect for others who also have that drive and passion to put their skills to work in creating positive change.

Our friend and Dyn client Mike Piatek-Jimenez is the owner and software engineer of Gaucho Software, a company that creates software and apps for OS X and iOS platforms. His company created Seasonality, an app that turns your computer into a weather station. Mike has the same passions that we do at Dyn for giving back and regularly donates money to worthy causes, has released several system monitoring tools as open source software and will continue to support this community with future releases.

Apps For Water

This however isn’t enough for him. Enter Apps for Water.

“Apps for Water gives app developers a chance to donate one day of their sales to a very worthy cause: providing clean water for developing nations. It seems like a simple thing: turn on a faucet and clean water pours out. Unfortunately, there are almost 1 billion people in the world who don’t have a safe, clean water source,” Mike explains.

“This isn’t just a minor inconvenience. It turns out the lack of safe water is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Over 2,000,000 people die each year from diseases stemming from the lack of clean water.”

Through the Apps for Water Campaign, Mike will be donating 100% of his sales on Tuesday December 20 to Charity: Water, a 501c3 charitable non-profit who works with local communities in developing nations, helping them provide safe water.

The generosity doesn’t stop there as he has also rallied and inspired other App developers to do the same thing. You can find a detailed list of them or lend a hand in helping by visiting the Apps For Water site on Tuesday. Buy some apps or simply make a donation and help out! It’s one day only so don’t put it off.
