With the exciting announcement of SendLabs joining the Dyn Inc. family, many people will be asking themselves “what does this mean for me?”
I’ll let Kyle, Lindsey and the rest of the marketing gang cover the highlights of the announcement but wanted to save one of the favorite aspects for myself: SmartMTA.
For the past four years, I’ve worked with many Dyn clients and seen first-hand how your needs have grown. Many of you have gone from Custom DNS to the Dynect Platform and many of you that have used our consumer grade MailHop services (now SendLabs services) have wished that MailHop Outbound (now SendLabs SMTP) would also scale with you.
SendLabs SMTP offers reliable email delivery no matter where you are sending from. It’s fast and easy, but it was designed for home users and small businesses.
If you’re a fast growing Web enterprise, the limit of 1500 emails per day just won’t work.
As you can imagine, we frequently have people contacting us looking to send more mail capabilities than the consumer level service will allow. Previously we would send them over to our friends and partners at SendLabs to use the SmartMTA service, but now we have brought the Inbox Experts in-house to offer you more options through Dyn.
So what are the differences between SendLabs SMTP (MailHop Outbound) and SmartMTA?

As you can see, the SmartMTA service is more robust and a great solution for larger companies that don’t want to deal with the headache of email deliverability.
For email receiving, we still have our MailHop services but with a new name and more expertise behind it. In talking with the SendLabs crew, it’s been very clear that they are as obsessed about mail as Dyn has been about DNS so it’s very exciting to have them giving some love to our existing services.
Here’s a quick run through of our other consumer services available in DynDNS.com
- SendLabs Backup MX is available for everyone who needs mail server redundancy. If your server goes down, we’ll receive your mail and deliver it to you when yours is back and running.
- SendLabs Gateway allows you to have all of your mail come to us where we filter spam and viruses before delivering it to your mail server. It has Backup MX built-in, so if your server goes down, we’ll hold onto the messages until you’re online again.
- SendLabs Forward is for home and small business customers who do not want to have to run their own mail server. We receive all of your mail, filter it and then forward it to another address. So if you have firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com, we can forward all mail from firstname.lastname@example.org to Sue’s Gmail account and email@example.com to Suzy’s Yahoo account.
