London Calling – Why Dyn Is Opening A UK Office

“There is a difference between being obsessed and motivated.” – Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network

We’re obsessed with our customers, motivated by them to build better technology and proactively support them. We constantly think about how to find more customers, sign them, support them, retain them and meet their friends. It’s a simple strategy based on the idea that people buy from and stick with people and companies they like.

So here is why we’re taking our talents to London, England, in April 2011.

  • 50% of our paying DynDNS.com consumer & small business client base is non-US based with 7.5% in the UK, making it our second biggest country behind the US. Today, 90% of our e-commerce growth is being driven internationally. (In case you couldn’t tell, we pay very close attention to the stats.)
  • Our enterprise customer base continues to grow across the Atlantic without any direct sales, channel or targeted marketing efforts. After we signed on some big UK clients on our Dynect Platform late last year, we started thinking about what we could do with greater commitment. Clients like Mediafed, Vibrant Media and Bauer Media all came from inbound leads. We started asking ourselves, what potential clients are we not reaching? Surely our account management, client services and technical support could be better? Most people don’t realize that a small company out of NH, USA. has our reach. We think it’s pretty cool, but strongly believe we can offer so much more.

So why London?

More and more web brands — including Amazon and Facebook — are setting up shop in Dublin, Ireland, (some sort of tax haven, we hear) which was also an option for us. After doing our diligence on both our existing customer base and partners in different European countries, we decided that English-speaking Great Britain would be our best jumping off point.

We’ll start with a small Dyn sales and account management team and quickly follow with our IaaS enterprise concierge. Improved managed DNS and email delivery with solid British blokes to sell and support will come soon thereafter.

If you have any ideas, are interested in a job or want to learn more, feel free to contact us. We’re all ears. See you very soon for some warm beer and fish and chips! Cheers!
