Go Saints! Winners of Super Bowl 44!

As we all know, tonight was Super Bowl 44 in the United States. After an amazing recovery from behind, the New Orleans Saints took the game 31 to 17 over the Indianapolis Colts. During the course of the game, Dyn Inc.'s own network operations team was standing by to monitor the health of the Internet as a whole, and how our DNS operations ran throughout the event. Since we have some huge brands and companies using our DNS platforms, we wanted to put in the effort to make sure things were running smoothly.

Happy Holidays, and Stay Secure, my Friends

It's official: We're now less than 48 hours away from one of the biggest holidays of the year, a time where online merchants are at their peak sales, and where security, sometimes, becomes less of a concern to everyone. I'm writing this post today to remind everyone that during this cheerful season of giving, to stay secure when online.

In this post, I’ll review some of the cool things we saw.

UltraDNS Outage Causes Multiple Website Failures

This morning, our Dynect Platform monitoring system noticed a problem, a big one. From our global perspective, it appears that many online services, including amazon.com (the store, AWS, and S3), salesforce.com, advertisting.com, and petco.com, had some serious DNS troubles. As many of our readers know, DNS is the glue that binds domain names, like dynect.com to their respective server’s IP addresses (204.13.248.122).

IANA ITAR is Live and Why You Should Care

This week, IANA launched it’s Interim Trust Anchor Repository. As described:

Bringing IPv6 to DynDNS.com Custom and Secondary DNS

Last week, we announced IPv6 DNS resolution support for DynDNS.com Custom and Secondary DNS customers by introducing a new nameserver, ns2.v6.mydyndns.org. By including ns2.v6.dyndns.org in your domain’s delegation, you’re adding a nameserver hostname which points to 2607:f590:f2::2, via a DNS AAAA resource record. Just so you know, AAAA resource records point hostnames to IPv6 addresses.
